The facilitator, Fredy Mashate, will take participants on an interactive expo investigative journey making use of simple illustrative demonstration and word sheets. Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is an exposition, or science fair, where students have the opportunity to showcase their projects and scientific investigation. Our program is dedicated to teaching students through positive learning experiences so that they will be successful in the world of science. The program assists each participant to become a responsible and independent young scientist and creative thinker.”
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Fredy Mashate is the Eskom Expo for Young Scientist Eastern Cape Provincial Coordinator. A law
graduate that fell in love with Science Engagement and has since become a vivid advocate for
science education. Fredy strongly believes in the role of science education as a viable pathway for
sustainable development.
He served as Manager of Scifest Africa and is known playing an active role in facilitating platforms for
science engagement in South Africa. His hope is to contribute towards a science literate society that
is equipped to come up with scientific solutions for their everyday problems.
A Mandela Rhodes Scholar who doubles as a Mandela Washington fellow, Fredy is a champion for
community engagement who actively inspires young scientists on a daily basis through his work at
Eskom Expo.
His contribution to community development has attracted a range of awards over the years,
including the Investec Rhodes Top 100 (2014 & 2015); Rhodes University Community Engagement
Gold Award (2016) and the Brightest Young Minds (BYM) Award (2016) but just to mention a few.
Fredy is a holder of a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Rhodes University and also holds a Master
in Commerce from the same institution.
