Mawethu Sewing Co-op started in 2002 with 26 members, of which 12 members had the opportunity to be trained by the Department of Labour. The Co-op was then funded by the Council of Churches for their business and boost from the Premiers Poverty fund to buy industrial machines. The business focus on sewing and beadwork, with their skill they are well known in their region. They have sold their work through festivals including the National Arts Festival.
