Dina Bekker’s As I am is a personal and reflective exploration of the diversity of humanity (often focused on women) and the roles they fulfil. Through figuration and abstraction, she investigates the lived experiences of women. Conflicting responsibilities become moral dilemma instead of competing rights. As artist, mother, and wife her work also narrates themes of identity, relationships, connectedness, and the inevitable ethic of care. The hope is that the work encourages the viewer to continually move forward, braving emotionally turbulent waters, yet always surfacing for those light-hearted moments in between. Oil on canvas and fine art giclée prints.
