The discussion will explore the experience of Women in Agriculture. We note that Farming and Agro-economy is identified as an engine of growth and poverty reduction. However, the industry is perceived to be male dominated and the panel discussion will unpack the contributions made by women, the struggles they face and the opportunities presented in the space.


Hombakazi Mercy Nqandeka

Hombakazi Mercy Nqandeka holds a double Masters degree from Ireland and France. She is an author of two books and an Agriculturist working for Viva Con Aqua, a water and sanitation organisation.

Dr. Cebisa Kumanda
Dr. Cebisa Kumanda is a 28 year old women who is very passionate about farming and believes strongly in women empowerment. Her love for farming developed at a very young age as she grew up in a family that made a living out of farming. She obtained her PhD Agriculture Animal Science degree from North West University in 2019, where she was also employed as an Animal Science Technician. She is however, currently employed by the University of Pretoria as a Senior Technical Assistant and got accredited to Lecturer at the Animal Science Department. Cebisa is a typical village girl that was raised by her late grandmother, that is where she learnt her values principles from. Cebisa believes that regardless of your sex and background, if you dream it, you can certainly achieve it.
