Scientoon is a novel class of cartoons based on science. The word Scientoon is a blending of science and cartoon. They not only make you smile and laugh but also provide information about new research, subjects, data and concepts in a simple, understandable, interesting and thought-provoking way. The term Scientoon was coined and made famous by the effort of Dr Pradeep Srivastava – former deputy director of Central Drug Research Institute in India. Scientoonics is the term used for the study of Scientoon.

Scientoonics has been associated with South Africa because on the 5th of December 2006, the South African Science Communication Conference was held in Port Elizabeth and experts from all over the world convened. That was where Dr Pradeep Srivastava announced his concept as a new science called Scientoonics. Now a days, Scientoon and Scientoonics get recognition from all over the world by several organizations, societies and Universities.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Vishal Muliya has been a Scientoon maker since 2014. He makes Scientoons based on facts, figures, principles, phenomena and the latest research in the field of science for enhancing the scientific temper amongst the science enthusiasts. He is often invited as a judge for national and international Scientoon competitions where he also delivers lectures and workshops. He was selected as the curtain-raiser for the India International Science festival 2020. His Scientoons are published in various magazines and journals.

By profession, he is a teacher of biology and further lectures at higher-secondary and graduate level institutions with 15 years of teaching experience. He has a YouTube channel called “Vigyan with Vishal Muliya” where he discusses interesting facts and figures related to science. He has 7 research publications and around 25 presentations.
