The spirit of all that the universal proverb that says : For a tree to bear fruit , it must honour its roots! Grows can also be found inside each and every one of us. In many cultures you will hear the wise leader teaching his people to be best friends with the soil, this way they will never be ravaged by hunger. In the stories of long ago we hear of how the people toiled for long hours tilling the land, starting before sunrise and giving their very best to ensure the richest crops at harvest time. All the years growing up, we are constantly reminded of these values. They help us relate to most stages of our lives even as we face the most uncertain times.

As a little girl Dr Gcina Mhlophe felt like a special garden that was constantly watered with love. It gave her all the resilience to face the hard times. Her life is that of a writer, performer and arts practitioner committed to promoting literacy in her country. She has always had a hunger for knowledge and believes that the day she stops learning is the day she stops living
