Design and create your own candle!!! The activity stimulates creativity, promotes fine motors skills, engagement and participation further encouraging the use of recyclable materials. Requirements: jar/little metal bucket, old candles, old crayons, candle wicks (from old candles), any essential oil, grater, knife to cut the old candles and glitter (optional).

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Ms. Marsha Kalika is presently the Chief Education Officer for Outreach at the KwaZulu – Natal Museum. her primary goal is to provide scientific support to learners and communities thus promoting and advancing careers in science, uplifting communities through the use of science and attracting new visitors to the museum. Marsha has interacted in scientific platforms with Scifest from 2018, receiving awards in the category for Outreach in 2018 and 2019.

In addition, she has actively engaged in online platforms through webinars, workshops and has previously worked closely with SAASTA for National Science Week. She holds a BSc from Rhodes University majoring in Environmental Science and Geography also graduating with distinction for her third year thesis in Geography on Water Quality which has being published internationally.

She later completed her BSc Honours in Environmental Management and Post Graduate Certificate in Education through Unisa. Marsha is passionate about science engagement, advancement and the endless possibilities associated with it for the youth.
